Haley's campaign reports $55,000 in fundraising

Ahead of tomorrow's disclosure deadline, Republican Daniel P. Haley of Holliston has set the fundraising benchmark in his state representative race, announcing he has received $55,000 in contributions. Haley's campaign would not provide donor information until it formally files with the state Office of Campaign and Political Finance, but said nearly 300 people have contributed. The $55,000 appears to be an impressive figure for a first-time candidate in the minority party who started campaigning in May.

Thank you for visiting!
As a fourth-generation resident of Holliston, I am excited to be a candidate to Represent the Eighth Middlesex District in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

Each day’s newspaper brings further evidence that government behind closed doors is not working for Massachusetts. This year the Commonwealth took in record revenues, a billion dollars above estimates, yet due to reckless spending and the failure to set priorities we are faced with an estimated 1.3 billion dollar deficit going into next year. Local aid is under-funded. Property taxes, tolls and the price of everything from gas to milk continue to rise. Yet in crafting next year’s State budget the House of Representatives literally took debate behind closed doors. There, out of the public eye, instead of making tough political choices to eliminate the deficit they added 220 million dollars in additional spending. Despite a steady flow of rhetoric coming out of the State House about the need to attract and retain quality employers, the Legislature just hiked taxes on business by almost 500 million dollars as part of an overall 800 million dollar tax hike! Our Legislature argued at length over a bill to ban trans fats in our restaurants, but quickly disposed of 'Jessica's Law,' a bill that would have imposed mandatory minimum prison sentences for sexual predators who victimize children. Our elected officials either refuse to set priorities at all, or set the wrong priorities for our families.

Massachusetts can no longer afford this unaccountable backroom dealing.

I am running to be an independent voice for our District, to stand up against wasteful spending and new taxes, and to fight for fiscal discipline and open, accountable government. I look forward to meeting you "on the trail," where I hope to earn your support and your vote.

Sincerely,
Dan Haley
